Scanning, the scan sheet and the basket
Scan a label and the sheet offers the one thing you'd do next. Switch modes for returns, moves and counts, or fill a basket for many things at once.
Open the scanner
Tap Scan: the green button at the top of the sidebar, or the middle of the bottom bar on a phone. It runs in your phone’s browser; there’s nothing to install. You can also point the phone’s own camera at any ItemTally label: it opens the scanner on that item.
No camera? Type a code (such as IT-000214), or use a USB or Bluetooth scanner gun, which works anywhere in the scanner.
The scan sheet: one verb
Scan an item and the sheet shows what it is, where it lives, its status and any upcoming booking. One big button offers the obvious next step:
- A free item: Take it (or Ask to borrow in a folder that needs approval).
- An item someone has: Return.
- Counted stock: Take some, with 1, 2, 5 or another amount.
Smaller links underneath cover the rest: Hand to someone, Extend, Add stock, Move and Report a problem. Viewers see the details only.
Modes
The chips above the camera switch what a scan does:
- Scan: the sheet and its one verb.
- Basket: collect many things for one action.
- Return: scan each thing as it comes back.
- Move to…: scan things into a new place.
- Count: count the place you’re standing in.
The basket
In Basket mode, every scan adds to the basket (scanning the same counted item again adds one more). Then choose Take N things or Hand N things to…: pick the person, a return date and an optional signature, and Hand over. It’s one receipt and one signature for up to 200 things.
Other labels you can scan
- A shelf label offers Count this place, Move things here or See what’s here.
- A kit label puts every item in the kit into the basket.
- A personal QR card starts a basket for that person.
A code nobody knows
An unknown barcode shows This code isn’t on anything yet. Editors can Create item with this code or Attach to an item, so the barcode on a box finds that item from then on.
Still stuck? Email [email protected] with what you're trying to do. A person who works on ItemTally answers, usually within a business day.
