Get started and the practice run

Set up the workspace

Sign up and Name your workspace. If you signed up with a work email, the name is filled in from your domain. Then Who else looks after your things? lets you invite teammates. They join as viewers, which are free on every plan, and you can give them more access later. Skip for now is fine.

Try the practice run

On a computer, the next step is Try it with your phone. Scan the QR code on screen with your phone’s camera and the phone signs in. Three practice items appear: a Practice drill, a Practice laptop and 10 rolls of Practice tape. Then:

1. Scan the Practice drill and tap Take it.
2. Scan it again and tap Return.

Each step ticks itself off. That’s the whole product: a scan shows what the thing is and offers the one thing you’d do next. Practice items are labelled as such and are cleared by your first real import.

Choose how to start

How do you want to start? has three options:

• Bring in your list (recommended). Upload a CSV from a spreadsheet or another tool. Download our template if you’re starting from nothing.
• Add by hand. Add your first item and scan its barcode, or print it a label.
• Explore sample data. A filled-in workspace to click around in. Clear it from the footer of Today when you’re done.

Then, in your first week

• Print labels for your items and shelves.
• Invite the people who look after things with you.
• Scan one item with your phone in the room it lives in.
