Build on your register.
A plain JSON API over the same register your team uses: read stock, hand things over, post deliveries, and hear about changes through webhooks. Every change lands in the logbook, so whatever your script does stays traceable.
Your first call
Create a key in the app under Settings → API and MCP, then ask the API who it thinks you are.
- Base URL
https://api.itemtally.com/v1- Auth
Authorization: Bearer itk_live_…- Format
- JSON in, JSON out, ISO 8601 dates
- Limits
- 600 reads and 120 writes a minute per key
- Cost
- Read and write keys are free on every plan. A write key acts as the editor who created it.

Recipes
- Sync stock levels from another system Your other system knows how many there should be. Post the difference as one logbook line per item, safe to re-run.
- Hand things over from your own tool Your helpdesk, intranet or booking tool decides who gets what. ItemTally records the hand-over, the due date and the return.
- Import items from another system Create items from your own list with opening stock, folders, tags and barcodes. Give each one a stable id and the import is safe to re-run.
- Export to a spreadsheet Page through every item and write a CSV that opens in Excel or Google Sheets. A read key is enough.
Webhooks and MCP
- Webhooks A signed POST to your endpoint when stock moves, something is handed over or returned, stock runs low or a loan goes overdue.
- Connect an AI assistant over MCP The register as an MCP server. Connect Claude or ChatGPT with a sign-in, or use an API key, and ask in plain language; any change waits for a person to confirm.
