ItemTally vs Cheqroom
Cheqroom is a serious equipment checkout platform, built around reservations, kits and large departments. The honest difference is scale and price. Cheqroom bills per admin, yearly, starting at three admins; ItemTally is a flat monthly plan from €0, with quantity stock included.
Choose Cheqroom if
- You run a large equipment operation and need work orders, RFID, room booking or shipment tracking in the same system.
- Your procurement needs SOC 2 Type II, which Cheqroom has.
- You have the budget for at least three admin licences billed yearly and want a vendor that onboards you.
Choose ItemTally if
- You want to start free and pay monthly, without a sales call.
- You also keep consumables and quantity stock, and don't want them as a paid add-on.

Depth in reservations and checkout rules
Booking restrictions, repeating reservations, equipment picking, access control by equipment and a public equipment list. The gear-cage workflow is Cheqroom's home ground, and it shows.

A wider platform
An optional work orders add-on covers maintenance, repairs, inspections, calibration, procurement and invoicing. RFID support and room management are available too. ItemTally deliberately does none of that.

Users who browse, book, check out and check in are free on every plan. You only pay for admins.

Cheqroom states it is SOC 2 Type II compliant, which some university and enterprise buyers require.
The structural difference
Cheqroom prices the person who runs the system. Every plan includes unlimited users and items, and you pay for admins: 184 a month each on Core, billed yearly, with three as the minimum. That works well for a large media department with a cage manager and hundreds of students. It’s a lot for a team of eight.
ItemTally prices the whole team, flat. €19/mo covers 5 editors and 50 borrowers, and €49/mo covers everyone. Quantity stock, signatures, counts and CSV export are on every plan, including the free one. What we don’t have is Cheqroom’s wider platform: work orders, RFID, room booking and shipment tracking.

ItemTally prices exclude VAT and are billed monthly. Items are never metered, and people who only look are free on every plan. Cheqroom's page shows prices without a currency symbol; its structured data lists them in US dollars. Cheqroom sells by quote, so your offer may differ.

Export your items from Cheqroom to a spreadsheet and save it as CSV. Their plan table lists data export on Business and up, so on Core ask their support for an export.

Import the CSV into ItemTally. Map name, location and your custom fields. Consumables come across as quantity items when you map their quantity.

Preview the dry run. Nothing is written until you confirm, and re-importing the same file later updates matching rows instead of duplicating them.

Keep your labels. Map the column that holds each item's barcode or code value to codes, and stickers carrying that value keep scanning in ItemTally.

Cheqroom lists Core at 184 per admin a month, billed yearly, with a minimum of 3 admins. That is $6,624 a year before add-ons, if the prices are in US dollars as their structured data says.
Is there a free alternative to Cheqroom?

Can students or staff check out gear themselves?
Yes. A borrower scans a label at a kiosk or on their own phone and takes the item on their own name. Folders can require an editor's approval first.
Does ItemTally do RFID or work orders?
No. ItemTally uses QR codes and barcodes, and keeps service dates and reminders without work orders. If you need either, Cheqroom covers them.
Will the price rise on me later?
Your joining price is locked, and items are never metered on any plan. Both are part of a signed, dated public pledge.
