itemit is a proper asset-tracking specialist with QR tags, check-outs with signatures, bookings, reminders and an offline app, plus RFID and GPS hardware if you need it. The honest difference is the price shape. itemit prices by asset tier and caps Starter at 3 paid users, with the API as an add-on on Pro; ItemTally is flat, with unlimited items and the API on every plan.

  1. Hardware options

    GPS trackers and handheld RFID readers on Pro, fixed RFID readers on Industrial. If you need to find gear without scanning it, ItemTally can't help.

  2. Offline in the app

    itemit says its iOS and Android apps let you access asset data and perform certain actions offline. Our native apps are still in testing.

  3. Hands-on support

    Pro includes priority support and a dedicated account manager, and itemit sells its own vinyl and aluminium asset tags.

The structural difference

itemit is priced on two dials: how many assets you track and how many people log in. Starter is paid per user and stops at three. Past that, Pro is a flat price for unlimited users at each asset tier, with the API as a £699-a-year add-on.

ItemTally has one dial, people, and splits them sensibly. Editors manage the register. Borrowers take and return things with a scan. Viewers are free. Items are never metered, and the API and an MCP server for AI assistants are on every plan.

The question that decides it: do you need to find gear without scanning it, with GPS or RFID? itemit is credible and ItemTally isn’t an option. If QR labels and barcodes do the job, the flat price and free plan are the difference.

ItemTally prices exclude VAT and are billed monthly. Items are never metered, and people who only look are free on every plan. itemit prices are in pounds sterling, excluding VAT, as shown on their page for the 1,000-asset tier it lists by default. Switching from itemit takes an afternoon

Nothing is written to your new register until you've seen the preview.

  1. Export your assets from itemit. itemit says you can export all data to an Excel file at any time; save it as CSV.

  2. Import into ItemTally. Map name, serial, location, assigned person and your custom fields. Consumables come across as quantity items when you map their quantity and minimum.

  3. Preview the dry run. Nothing is written until you confirm. Re-import later and matching rows update in place.

  4. Keep your tags. itemit lets you use your own codes, and ItemTally does too: map the column holding each tag's value to codes and those tags keep scanning.

How much does itemit cost?

At its listed 1,000-asset tier, Starter is £33.25 a month per user (up to 3 users) and Pro is £133.25 a month, or £1,599 billed yearly, for unlimited users. Prices exclude VAT, and tags and the API cost extra.

Is there a free version of itemit?

No. itemit offers a 14-day free trial with no card. ItemTally has a free plan for 1 editor and 10 borrowers with unlimited items.

Does itemit track consumables?

Yes. itemit's own pages describe minimum quantities per item and low-stock flags alongside asset tracking.

Does ItemTally support RFID or GPS?

No. ItemTally uses QR codes and barcodes, including the ones already on the packaging. If you need RFID or GPS, itemit offers both.

Does itemit work offline?

itemit says its apps let you perform certain actions offline and sync when you reconnect, and its help centre says the app is built to work best with a connection. ItemTally's phone apps for offline scanning are in testing; scanning in the phone's browser needs a connection.

What are the alternatives to itemit?
