    In Claude or ChatGPT, add api.itemtally.com/mcp as a custom connector.

  2. Sign in and choose

    Pick the workspace, and whether the assistant can only read or can also prepare changes for you to confirm.

  3. Ask

    “What’s low in Van 1?” “What does Sam have out?” “How long will the cable ties last?”

AI suggests. A person confirms. There is no setting in which an assistant quietly edits your stock.

A change needs a connection with write access and your Confirm on the exact proposed change. It lands in the logbook under your name, marked as coming through the assistant, and the receipt has an Undo.

Questions people ask

Can the assistant change my inventory?

Only if you connected it with Read and propose changes, and never silently. The assistant can only prepare a change: you see exactly what it would do, and nothing is written until you press Confirm. In Claude, the Confirm button on the card is the only way to make a change, and the assistant can't press it. Every change can be undone from its receipt.

Does this cost extra?

No. Connected assistants, API keys and the MCP server are included on every plan, including the free one. An assistant acts as the person who connected it.

Is my data used to train AI models?

Not by ItemTally. The MCP server answers your assistant's questions from your register when it asks; what your assistant's provider does with a conversation is set by your account with them.

What's the ⌘K thing in the app?

Ask the register: the same plain-language questions without leaving the app. Press ⌘K, choose Ask the register and type. It uses the same tools, so the answers agree, and any change it prepares waits for your confirm.

Which assistants work?

Claude (web, desktop and Claude Code), ChatGPT and any client that can add a remote MCP server. Most sign in with your ItemTally account; scripts and editors can use an API key instead.
